Syria”s War: Moving to New Battlefields, Opening New Fronts

A mass exodus of Islamic State (IS) commanders and fighters from the Syrian city of Raqqa has been reported recently. The group has controlled Raqqa since late 2013. There are around 500 thousand people living in the city, mainly from the areas of Palmyra, al-Sakhnah and the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib.
